Since young age, Ricardo Baez has been immersed in the ever-evolving fringe of music culture. Born in Florence to Italian and Venezuelan parents, absorbed in his Fatherʼs collection of blues and jazz records alongside the eighties pop tapes his Mother used to soundtrack dance classes, Baez has since made his own significant mark on alternative culture in Italy.
In 2010, Baez founded ‘Tropical Animals’, a weekly party in Florence that, in a decade since, has traced the evolution of alternative electronic music across house, techno and disco. While trends and fashions come and go, and club nights with them, ‘Tropical Animals’ has evolved alongside Baez’s DJ sets, the generous accompaniment to guest selectors from across the world. From Avalon Emerson to Vladimir Ivkovic, Marshall Jefferson and Jayda G, Mall Grab via Mafalda, Baez’s knowledge and sensitivity in the realm of electronic music have long made him the perfect foil to generations of the world’s finest DJs.
In 2019 he decides to found a parallel project named: LONELY DANCER, where he expresses himself and his musical ideas, giving vent to his art without limitations of genre or boundaries. In 2019 he sings on a track for Tropical Animals' V / A called “Loco por la techno”. In 2020 he composes and writes "Don’t wanna be alone" featuring the house music legend Robert Owens.
For 2022 he gives us a techno-romantic ep together with the remix of Rebolledo founder of the mystical Pachanga boys and Hippie Dance record label , a maverick presence in underground dance culture.
For His second release on Tropical Animals he writes, composes and sings "yo soy yo" an autobiographical, powerful and romantic song that describes a complicated part of his life, where his inner strength and personal revenge collide with the difficulty of world around us and with unrequited love. A modern ballad, full of organic elements together with a compact and precise rhythmic structure that contrasts with a deep voice that feigns confidence.
Rebolledo with his Ego's Trip creates an infinite hypnotic inner, mental and sensual journey. All the sounds become even deeper, a dark wave shuffles all the feelings of the original song, giving it a different push and more dimensions.
This new work by Ricardo consolidates his position as a 360-degree visionary tastemaker and artist.
